Iqaluit, Canada
Originally known as Frobisher Bay, Iqaluit is the largest community of the Canadian territory of Nunavut. The city experiences extreme winters and short summers, so much of the architecture is designed to retain heat and withstand the climate. The most distinctive building in Iqaluit is St. Jude's Anglican Cathedral, which was shaped like an igloo and adorned with narwhal tusks before a fire destroyed it in 2005. Although Iqaluit has a small population of around 6,000, it still offers many cultural attractions worth exploring. The Nunatta Sunakkutaangit Museum houses a large collection of Inuit and Artic objects, while the annual Toonik Tyme spring festival combines Inuit history with modern events.
